Why is Whirlpool® recalling these dishwashers?
Certain Whirlpool® and Kenmore® brand (made by Whirlpool Corporation) under-the-counter, plastic tub dishwashers were manufactured with an electrical defect within the dishwasher's wash motor wiring. This condition poses a risk of the motor overheating and possibly catching fire.

Which products are being recalled?
The recalled products are Whirlpool® brand and Kenmore® brand (made by Whirlpool Corporation) under-the-counter, plastic tall tub dishwashers. The dishwashers come with black, white, biscuit, or stainless front panels. They have the following model and serial numbers located inside the tub on a tag near the left side of the door opening:

The units were sold at department and appliance stores, and through homebuilders, nationwide from June 2004 through January 2005.

What will Whirlpool® do to fix the products?
The dishwasher will be inspected and/or repaired free of charge. Upon completion, the dishwasher will be safe to use, and will meet our specifications.

When will Whirlpool® fix the product?
Whirlpool® is working as quickly as possible and expects to begin repairing units, both in consumers' homes and in trade partners stores and warehouses, beginning February 25, 2005.

Do I need to buy a new product?
No. Whirlpool® will inspect and/or repair the dishwasher free of charge.

How will I know that the dishwasher is safe after I have received service?
The service technician will add a blue dot to the model and serial number tag of your dishwasher. This blue dot indicates that your dishwasher has been inspected and/or repaired and is safe to use.

Didn’t Whirlpool® test the product before putting it on the market?
The safety of Whirlpool's customers is the company's top priority. It conducts extensive testing on the products it develops and brings to market.

What should I do if my dishwasher is part of the recall?
You should immediately:
- Stop using the unit.
- Disconnect the electric supply to the dishwasher by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker controlling it. If you need help or are uncomfortable with disconnecting the electric supply, please call Whirlpool Corporation toll free at (866)-769-7260.
- Inform all users of the dishwasher not to use it due to the risk of fire.

Can I still use my dishwasher while I am waiting for repairs?
No. You should immediately:
- Stop using the unit.

- Inform all users of the dishwasher not to use it due to the risk of fire.

What if I am unable to disconnect the electric supply to my dishwasher?
Due to the risk of fire, you should inform all users of the dishwasher not to use it until the repair has been completed. As long as the dishwasher is NOT running, it DOES NOT pose a risk. As a precaution, you should keep the dishwasher door unlatched.

Can I contact the retailer where I purchased my dishwasher to schedule a service call?
You should call Whirlpool Corporation toll-free at (866)-769-7260 anytime to schedule service on your affected dishwasher. If a retailer provides service, the repair will be scheduled through the retailer if possible.
