Why is KitchenAid® recalling these coffee makers?
Certain KitchenAid® brand coffee makers have an internal electrical component that can overheat and ignite, posing a fire hazard to consumers. KitchenAid® has received thirteen reports of incidents involving coffee makers overheating resulting in minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Which products are being recalled?
The recalled coffee makers are KitchenAid® Classic, Ultra, and Pro series 10-Cup and 12-Cup models, and were sold nationwide from 1999 through 2004.


AFFECTED MODELS WERE PRODUCED IN WHITE, ONYX BLACK, EMPIRE RED, AND COBALT BLUE WITH THE FOLLOWING MODEL NUMBERS:

Affected units were sold through various catalogs, department stores, specialty retailers and on-line nationwide from 1999 through 2004 between $50 and $130.

Do customers have to buy a new product?
No. KitchenAid® has determined that the safe and appropriate resolution to this matter is to replace the coffee maker with a new KitchenAid® JavaStudio® coffee maker.

How will customers know that the coffee maker is safe after they have received their new replacement model?
The new coffee makers have a new design that eliminates the potential “overheating” problem.

Didn’t KitchenAid® test the product before putting it on the market?
The safety of KitchenAid® customers is the company’s top priority. It conducts extensive testing on the products it develops and brings to market.

How do customers know if their coffee maker is a part of the recall?
The recalled products are only certain KitchenAid® brand coffee makers. KitchenAid® Pro Line®, JavaStudio™ Series and KitchenAid® 4 Cup coffee makers ARE EXCLUDED from this recall. The affected coffee makers come in White, Cobalt Blue, Empire Red, and Onyx Black. They have the following model and serial numbers located on the bottom of the coffee maker.

What if a customer owns a coffee maker and it is not within the model/serial range?
The consumer’s coffee maker is NOT a part of the recall and they may continue to use the coffee maker safely.

What should customers do if their coffee maker is part of the recall?
Consumers with recalled coffee makers should immediately:
·   Unplug and stop using the unit.
·   Inform all users of the coffee maker not to use it due to the risk of fire.


Consumers should call KitchenAid® toll free at(800) 990-6255 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, or go to the firm's Web site at www.KitchenAid.com/repair for more information regarding the recall.

Can customers still use their coffee maker while waiting for the replacement coffee maker?
No. Consumers with recalled coffee makers should:
·   Immediately unplug and stop using the unit.
·   Inform all users of the coffee maker not to use it due to the risk of fire.

Can customers return their coffee maker to the place where they bought it?
No. Please do not return the coffee maker to the retailer where it was purchased, as retailers are not prepared to take them back.

How can customers be sure that their other KitchenAid® products are safe?
KitchenAid® has a long history of making safe and reliable products. This recall only affects the specific products mentioned. There is no need to be concerned about any other KitchenAid® products. Consumer safety is our top priority, which is why we immediately took voluntary action when this safety issue was discovered.

No. KitchenAid® has determined that the safe and appropriate resolution to this matter is to replace the coffee maker with a new KitchenAid® JavaStudio® coffee maker.
